  • Why Canada Values Immigrants?

Canada is known for welcoming newcomers and now has over 100 economic immigration programs to help thousands of immigrants and their family members find their pathway to a better life through immigration to Canada. With the strong belief that Immigration really does matter, the Canadian government has launched a new social initiative #Immigrationmatters to help break down negative preconceptions surrounding immigrants.

Canada believes that not only do immigrants have a positive impact on the growth of the local economy and communities but also has a positive effect on the lives of thousands of immigrants and their families and that both are equally as important.

But with so many ways to immigrate to Canada, how exactly are immigrants chosen to come to Canada? Let take a closer look, shall we?

    Why Canada Values Immigrants?

Canada has a goal of inviting over 1 million skilled foreign workers and their loved ones to immigrate to Canada by 2020, for more than one reason.

    1. Immigrants contribute to local economies

At the moment, the worker-to-retiree ratio is 4 to 1. This is set to decrease to a 2 to 1 ratio by 2035, which means that there will be many jobs without people to fill the labour gap. Canada’s decreasing birth rate and earlier retirement rate means that there will be thousands of important jobs in Canada that will need to be filled, especially in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, transportation, retail, construction, hospitality and tourism as well as scientific and tech services. With this in mind, Canada has designed over 100 economic immigration programs to help skilled and experience workers find their pathway to immigrate to Canada.

    2. Immigrants create jobs

Canadian immigrants also help to boost local trade and are known to be very successful and innovative entrepreneurs. Canada’s business sector employs over 12 million people and by bringing new business to Canadian communities, immigrants are able to contribute by creating more jobs in Canada. Today, there are more than 47,000 immigrants working in senior management roles in various sectors and over 600,000 self-employed immigrant business owners creating more than 260,000 jobs nationwide.

    3. Immigrants improve health and social services

Canada is known for its exceptional healthcare system, and it just wouldn't be the same without the support and skills possessed by its foreign staff members. 1 in every 4 healthcare workers in Canada is an immigrant. Canada. Canada’s ageing population has driven the demand for healthcare workers, particularly nurses, doctors, homes support and childcare workers as well as medical administrative workers. Over the next 10 years, Canada will need more than 60,000 nurses and almost 51,000 doctors, which means that approximately 27,750 thousand new healthcare positions will be filled by foreign healthcare workers.

    4. Immigrants enrich Canadian culture

Canada has one of the highest naturalization rates globally, with almost 85% of foreigners becoming Canadian citizens. Immigrants are very involved in community participation, with almost a third participating in volunteer work and nearly two-thirds belonging to community organizations. Canada also has a growing language diversity, with over 200 different foreign languages spoken nationally. Canada welcomes and accepts all religions and cultures which not only means a high diversity of different cultures but most immigrants will also have a strong desire for food and goods that taste like home. This not only creates an opportunity for immigrant entrepreneurs but it means that all Canadians and tourists will be able to broaden their cultural horizons by having access to a variety of imported goods and services provided by immigrants in Canada.
